CLHS Annual Community Forum a success!

1/29/2018

The Spry Community Links High School Annual Community Forum focuses on our neighborhood, Little Village, and community issues. Students study issues facing the community and research creative and innovative solutions to those issues through research, math, History, and this year- using the arts through a partnership with the National Museum of Mexican Art’s Antonio Pazaran. Lead teachers for this project, Tim Ruby and Maggie Sack, worked with Mr. Pazaran to create a cross-curricular project that examined social services and community needs while creating architectural designs that addressed those issues all under one roof. Students learned about the community needs by interviewing the local community non-profits and social service agencies. Once their research was complete they worked with the teaching artist, Mr. Pazaran to develop floor plans, perspective elevation drawings and creating a 3D physical model of their structure. The event is held annually at the Open Center for the Arts. This year over a hundred visitors attended to hear the student’s visions for what their community could be. The visitors included students' families, teachers, school staff, as well as community members and stakeholders. Their teachers Maggie Sack and Tim Ruby, as well as the rest of the school community, are excited to see how these young civil servants and architects will one day actualize the dreams inspired by their designs for the Little Village community. Here are some photos from the Spry Community Links High School lead partner agency Youth Guidance taken by their marketing associate- Nicole Wong.
